Their size and unpredictable speed present special challenges. With all photography the background quality is important, wind effects focus more than here than most genres. Here you see the subjects in their natural environment and natural light, no studios or setups. The dragonflies are captured in flight and many images are required to get just one acceptable. Be aware that many, many insect photos you see published are made in a studio with a dead subject, I even saw a magazine article showing how to do it! Here we are real.
